About this deal

Several releases actually suffered as a result, without the knowledge – and collections – of certain fans. Even the Season sets so far haven’t always made things right. Occasionally, material from the standalone DVD releases of serials is moved to a particular season release if it is deemed a more appropriate fit. For example, Tomorrow's Times: The Sixth Doctor, originally included on the Vengeance on Varos Special Edition DVD, was included instead on the Bluray release of Season 23. Most notably, Coming Soon trailer for at-the-time forthcoming DVD releases of serials have been moved to the disc for the preceding story. For example, the trailer for The E-Space Trilogy box set, originally included on the DVD release for Battlefield, is included in the Season 18 set on the disc for Meglos. CONVENTION FOOTAGE A chance to hear from UNIT’s Nicholas Courtney and Richard Franklin, recorded in 1986.

The first serial, Day of the Daleks, saw the return of the Daleks for the first time since Season 4's The Evil of the Daleks in 1967. This was also the first time that the Daleks had been seen in colour in the television series (they had been in colour in the two films starring Peter Cushing produced in the mid-1960s). Storyboard Comparison: Comparing visual effects designer Ian Scoones's hand-drawn storyboards for the story's opening sequence with the finished version as seen on screen. (2'18" | 4:3 | 2010) Surround Sound: Optional 5.1 and Dolby Atmos surround sound mixes, newly produced for this release. It was revealed that Resurrection was the latest dvd being worked on, and the number of people repeatedly demanding release dates, articles and official announcements led BBC DVD to ban the Restoration Team from saying anything at all about upcoming releases. BBC DVD as it was then even stopped telling the RT what the next release was and removed some decision making from them. So they were working on several upcoming titles with no idea what was out next, and couldn’t talk about anything unreleased – all due to certain “fans” not being able to behave despite repeated cautions. And that’s still the situation we have now, pretty much. It’s exactly the same model.

Doctor Who: Inferno". British Video Association. Archived from the original on 20 October 2013 . Retrieved 19 October 2013. In some cases, visual effects have been improved - improved exterior shots of the Pharos Project were used to replace models in some instances, including brand-new location shots filmed using drones. As with such improvements on the DVD range, these changes are optional and can be enabled or disabled at will. Serials have also been remixed in 5.1 surround where possible.Nationwide: Excerpt featuring the BBC Special Effects Exhibition, broadcast 7 December 1972. (3'26" | 4:3 | 1972) The Curse of Peladon‘ might be studio based but it is a great story with a wonderful mix of characters. Alpha Centauri is hilariously bizarre and it’s great to see the Ice Warriors in colour for the first time. With some further technical wizardry, this story has never looked better in terms of picture quality. My personal favourite story is ‘ The Sea Devils‘ which was the first example of Doctor Who I had ever seen. The imagery of these creatures emerging from the sea captured my imagination and still does. Thus far it is a thoroughly enjoyable watch. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the final two stories. Blue Peter: Presenter Peter Purves remembers his time as a companion and is joined in the studio by a trio of Daleks, broadcast 25 October 1971. (4'48" | 4:3 | 1971) An additional promotional DVD was released in DWM 544 on 17 October 2019 as part of the magazine's 40th anniversary, though it is not part of the official 'The Collection' boxset run.

Behind the Sofa: with Michael E Briant and Katy Manning; Sophie Aldred and Wendy Padbury; and Peter Davison, Janet Fielding and Sarah Sutton. (30'52" | 16:9 | 2023) I enjoy Tom’s era altogether entirely as a whole. Yes it has drab moments here and there but I find it overall to be the most consistently brilliant era of Classic Who. It has everything. Seasons 12-18 are so different to anything before and after. They build and expand on the qualities of Doctors 1-3 and pave the way for the stories of 5-7. Tom Baker’s era mixes the best of the 70’s and 80’s in a perfect blend of Action, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy, Gothic and traditional Horror, Satire, and Science fiction. Even to this day people still see Tom as the definition of The Doctor. He’s iconic.
